Rally Sweden is done and for the second straight round weather was the deciding factor. Abnormally warm temperatures (OMG GLOBAL WARMING!!1!) and a lack of snow resulted in roads that became gravel as the cars tore them up and snowbanks that were smaller and softer than usual. The gravel roads were a problem because everyone brought studded tires to the party, and gravel eats studs. The snowbanks were a problem because drivers typically treat Sweden like bumper bowling, carrying extra speed into corners with the intent of bouncing off the snowbank on exit. The softer snowbanks instead acted like an icy tar pit, sucking cars into its depths.
Many cars spent time trapped in those snowbanks, including Sebastien Ogier. Bad news for 19 of this week's fantasy players, but good news for a brave and clever six. Unsurprisingly these six dominated the week's results, filling the top five spots and six of the top eight (AntMic was let down somewhat by Hanninen and Kubica). Hoccy, thanks to his biased Scandinavian homerism (he is from Norway after all), destroyed everyone with his all-Scandinavian roster, picking the entire finishing top four, along with Henning Solberg for an extra six points. This gave him a massive fourteen point win over second place Lumpy44. But never mind that, there's bigger news! RAPHAEL ORLOVE IS ON THE PODIUM! The only person to ever score less than twenty points in a round (and do it twice) is on the podium! And on a round with 25 entries at that! Remember this moment, for when in a few months the sun explodes and becomes a black hole, fire rains from the sky, and the world is sucked into the abyss, you'll be able to say you saw it coming, for nothing can be a surer sign of the end of the world than what has just transpired.
Now then, results! Here's the fantasy top 12 for Rally Sweden. As always the full standings are on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

The Nordic Nations do love them some fancy pants.

I would like to thank Satan, the underwater volcanic tub worms that control the world economy, my invisible cat Gerald, and the Space Vikings that gave birth to Jari-Matti "Earth Conqueror" Latvala for this podium finish. May our oncoming demise be sweet and righteous.

No Lumpy44 as the newcomer who takes the podium at Sweden WRC?
![]() 02/10/2014 at 14:31 |

I could vote you for academy, but as a newcomer I'd rather see some consistency first. Did you see last year's scores for Duplessis?

Wouldn't you wear pants like these if you could?
![]() 02/10/2014 at 14:35 |

I'm cool with that, trying to find the scores!

Yes. Yes I would. *said with the appropriate amount of pride mixed with shame*

MY FIRST FANTASY WRC WIN!!
I want to thank all the great nordic drivers that fulfilled my expectations, especially Andreas Mikkelsen that put together a stunning drive for his first WRC podium finish. Norwegian broadcasters for sending Mountain Rally, where interviews exposed the confidence of Østberg and Mikkelsen, and Pontus Tidemands talent. Henning Solberg also showed great skill as a barberque chef for GRC-driver Sverre Isachsen, I'm sure that helped a lot in Sweden.
I also want to thank my dad for recording rally highlights on VHS, so I could watch them in my early days as a rally enthusiast. I don't know where I would be in Fantasy WRC without the knowledge from the Mäkinen and Grönholm era. Several hours of rally watching has culminated into this. Also, thanks Dusty for hosting this fantastic event.
Hopefully I can continue the good run in Mexico, but it will be hard for sure.

Awesome photos! The second to last one especially caught my eye.

Meh. Rally Mexico is a whole other animal than Sweden. There's tunnels, elevation changes, temperature changes, and gravel roads. I sucked dog balls on my picks. I guess the Nordics are really born with ice in their veins. At least JML can win one at least once a year. Maybe build his confidence up a bit for the next round or two.

Yeah, I think so.
Right after I chose my rosters I regretted it. Should've been bolder and chosen JML.
You have an awesome consistency on your choices. You've picked up so fast last year you almost won! I only won because I had a lot of spare time to think about my picks in the first half of the year. Now I'm kinda randomly choosing the obvious guys. I hope I pick up.

Didn't do as good this go round, still—2nd place overall ain't bad :D Hope I can keep it up....

You will. We both had similar picks for several races last season. Rallying still is unpredictable anyway, and I've lucked out quite a bit. Next year, JML ftw at Rally Sweden! I've gone with Ogier often ftw, because that's what he's doing. Winning. Picking the other 4 are harder. I also take risks with some rallies, like Portugal, where the weather can be a factor and cause havoc.

I may have finished in 15th this round, but I got a shoutout from Becsy on WRC Live, as did Dusty. That's got to be worth something right?

I got my hands on all the photos taken by the official WRC photogs, plus the official photogs for all four manufacturers. Nearly a thousand photos in all. It's awesome stuff!

Highlight of the weekend right there (well that and the epic twitter exchange I had with Becsy, Colin, and Stef about the color of the Hyundais). And if not for Becs I wouldn't have found your twitter

I don't want to be one of your picks! You're bad juju.
Seriously though, don't forget everyone gets to drop their four worst scores. Nobody's out of it yet!

Here you go. He showed up late with only three events left in the season. Finished sixth, first, fourth. He had the third highest average score for anyone who made picks for more than one rally. Though in fairness we had a much smaller field of players last year.

Still quite the feat, time for me to relive it!!!

Even when I do well I still do bad...

If you want to trade I'll gladly be eighth on the week and fifth overall

I thought I had a wildcard with Latvala, but to end last out of the people who had Latvala is rather bittersweet.
I'm going with the Hirvonen game plan, completely average all year and hope enough people crash (don't make picks) enough to win.

Hooray, #10 overall! Twas a good battle, I look forward to dueling with you in the round next. ;)
